Once on island, the falls can be accessed by Route 580. At the milepost 6, 580 heads inland for three miles (5 km).
Route 580 is called Kuamoʻo Road at this point and it is 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the ʻŌpaekaʻa Falls parking lot and overlook.
Route 580 goes through a notch in the Kuamoo ridge that the Wailua River has eroded.
Two sights of the view between the Kuamoo ridge Route 580), can never see on a same angle, Wailua valley and Mauna Kapu (forbidden mountain) on the left and Opaekaa falls on the right of the Kuamoo ridge (Route 580).
And, at this point, there is a sanctuary called "Poliahu Heiau" which was build by ancient people, stacking the lava.
Lookink at the Wailua valley from this heiau (sanctuary), it is a bit worrying for me, some strange space between the river and Mauna Kapu mountain.
It looks like there was a fish pond which was constructed by ancient people "Menehune" in once upon a time, then, I descried to reproduce an imaginary fish pond in this art-work.
I am very interested in why the ancient people constructed the Heiau (sanctuary) here, on the top of the ridge that we can overlook the left and right visions.
In few years ago, when I’ve always visited here, I’ve used to enjoy some conversations with the painting artist called Moki O' Kauai at this point in three times.
He had been staying there always while I’ve used to visit.
He was a wonder artist who is painting only one subject of this Opaeka’a Falls.
All of ancient people including us, even Moki O' Kauai, we wish to see both side of the views with total internal reflection on the prism of our eyes, standing on this Poliahu Heiau.
This heiau, that must have been made based on the desire of the people of ancient times like this yearning.
Now, I have the same eyes of my missing friend, painter Moki o Kaua'i.

yearning / aspiration = The desire which he is not mainly conscious of by psychoanalysis.

“Behold, I will send for many fishermen,” says the Lord, “and they shall fish them; and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain and every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks. For My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from My face, nor is their iniquity hidden from My eyes. And first I will repay double for their iniquity and their sin, because they have defiled My land; they have filled My inheritance with the carcasses of their detestable and abominable idols.” (Jeremiah 16:16-18 NKJV)

The greatest gift from God since the death of Jesus Christ is "Love".
However, From the beginning, God gifted man with a personality along with dignity.
Since God created man in His own image, God delegated and gifted his property, as something that should be under the management of man.
Acting to treat it poor is equal to the act of stealing it, that means not only taking some substances but also it means that you deny your own dignity and personality, and it finally means that we deny God Himself as well.
So, the ransom from creature to the Creator,,,,,, we can keep our dignity by not only return what you've been stealing, but adding the same number of minutes.
So, repaying double for their iniquity and their sin, that is the judgment of God fair.
Of course, we will not be able to reveal the inner surface of the people to judge one other.
However, for revealing the double beauty of works of God's creations, I consider that we might be able to honor and worship God and to be mightily used to declare his glory.
The artist Moki o Kaua’i who had loved this Opaeka'a Falls peerlessly and gone in 2007, probably he might had a same yearning for this area, that is a natural supposition.
But, he might thought that It's presumptuous to remake some part of the creatures of God by the hands of the human, for being realised from reverence to God.
On the other hand, for dates back to the old days more, how was a thought of an ancient Hawaiian had been?
Anciant hawaiian people achieved their double yearning (desire to honor and worship the power and truth of God through the great creation of God), to construct their heiau (sanctuary) on the top of Kuamo'o ridge, without flinching.
Now today, it is very natural for us to insight: It was their motivation that they wanted to capture their visions of both the valley and waterfall in one sean at the same time, using their sense of TOTAL REFLECTION.
This must be my "Pixel Painting".

Rodney Moki Basconcillo
Rodney Moki Basconcillo aka Moki o Kaua‘i, of Anahola, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Nov. 28, 2007, at the age of 59.
Born Dec. 14, 1947, he served in the U.S. Navy after graduating from Kapa‘a High School in 1965. He attended various colleges and acquired numerous degrees from hotel management to engineering. After living in L.A. for many years as an engineer, he decided to return to Kaua‘i to fulfill his passion of becoming a full-time artist. He is fondly remembered being seen almost daily doing what he loved best up at Opaeka‘a Falls, painting and sharing his aloha with visitors and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, Dec. 9 at Lydgate Park with visitation at 2 p.m. and a service celebrated at 3 p.m. Aloha or casual attire is suggested.
The Coco Palms was the oldest hotel on the Garden Isle of Kaua`i, and was the world's most famous Polynesian resort. Elvis Presley filmed the finale of his film "Blue Hawaii" there in 1961, immortalizing its lush coconut groves and picturesque lagoons.
When Hurricane Iniki struck in September 1992, the Coco Palms was shut down indefinitely as repairs proved too costly and the entire island struggled with recession. The property, located on the southeast shore of Kaua`i, has been left to decay now for over a decade.
Currently the Coco Palms Hotel is CLOSED.
In other time, a painter Moki o Kaua’i gave me another picture taken on the film “Blue Hawaii” 1961.
He signed his name on it and said to me “This is Moki when I was kid”.
That was at Opaeka’a Falls Lookout in April 2006.
